Substitution Policy
Last updated July 9, 2026
Fresh flowers are natural, seasonal, and sourced locally, so the exact stems, colors, and containers shown online may not always be available on a given day. This policy explains how the independent local florists in our marketplace handle substitutions so your gift still arrives beautiful and full of value.
Flower availability changes
Flower availability shifts daily based on local supply, growing conditions, and demand. If a specific flower shown in a photo is not available when your order is prepared, the florist may substitute a similar flower of equal or greater value while keeping the overall look, style, and feel of the arrangement you selected.
Seasonal flower substitutions
Certain flowers are only available during specific seasons. When an out-of-season flower is requested, your local florist will use the freshest seasonal alternatives that match the intended color palette and design as closely as possible, so the arrangement stays true to the spirit of your order.
Color substitutions
Florists make every effort to honor the color scheme you choose. When an exact color is unavailable, they will select the nearest matching tone. If a specific color is essential to your gift, we encourage you to note it in the order instructions so the florist can plan around it or reach out with options.
Container and vase substitutions
Vases, baskets, and containers are also subject to availability. If the pictured container cannot be used, the florist will choose a comparable container of equal or greater value and similar style. The value of the substituted container is included within the overall value of your order.
Equal or greater value rule
Our guiding principle is simple: any substitution should provide equal or greater value than the item it replaces. Florists do not reduce the size or value of an arrangement to accommodate a substitution. The goal is always to protect the freshness, fullness, and impression of your gift.
Designer's choice arrangements
When you order a designer's choice arrangement, you are inviting the florist to create a custom design using the best and freshest flowers available that day within your chosen price range. These arrangements naturally involve substitution and give the florist creative freedom while honoring any color or style preferences you share.
Holiday shortage rules
During major floral holidays, popular flowers can sell out quickly and wholesale supply can tighten. During these peak periods, substitutions may be more frequent. Florists will continue to follow the equal or greater value rule and will prioritize keeping your arrangement fresh, full, and consistent with the design you selected.
Customer communication when possible
Florists will try to contact you before making a significant substitution, such as a major change to the primary flower or overall color, when time allows. Because flowers are perishable and delivery windows can be tight, this is not always possible. When advance contact is not feasible, the florist will use professional judgment to deliver a comparable arrangement of equal or greater value. If you would like to be contacted before any substitution, please add that request in your order instructions, and if you have concerns after delivery, our clear refund and resolution process and the local florist are here to help.
